Business Central and Ongoing WMS working as a connected whole

About Hegas and Mellanrummet

Hegas publishes books. Mellanrummet ensures they end up on the right shelf. This way of working had worked well for many years and when it was time to modernize the systems behind it, both companies needed to move forward together.

The challenge

Hegas had been running on a legacy ERP system that was no longer developable. That alone made change inevitable. But the real trigger came from Adlibris, one of Sweden's dominant book distributors, who began requiring SSCC labelling and Advanced Shipping Notices (ASN) from their suppliers. Since Mellanrummet physically handles all of Hegas' outbound shipments, meeting that requirement meant Mellanrummet needed the right systems in place.

The question wasn't whether to change. It was how to build something that would work for both companies at once.

The solution

The solution came in different parts. Business Central was brought in, by BC partner Bisqo, to handle Hegas' financials and transactions. Ongoing WMS was added for warehouse management on Mellanrummet's side – covering picking, packing and SSCC labelling. And Golden EDI sits between them, managing order intake, keeping the two systems in sync, and handling outbound ASN communication to Adlibris.

Each part serves a distinct function but it's the connections between them that make the whole thing work – orders flowing from Hegas' Business Central into Mellanrummet's warehouse operations, and fulfilment data flowing back out to Adlibris automatically, without manual handling in between.

"Golden EDI just has a good reputation out there. No matter which system we looked at, people kept pointing to them when the conversation turned to integration," says Magnus Lidström, CTO at Mellanrummet

The implementation

The project was led by Golden EDI's consultant, Sara, whose structured approach kept things moving despite external delays.

"Sara kept a firm grip on everything. Deadlines were met and communication was clear." – Magnus Lidström, Mellanrummet

The solution went live in May 2026, following thorough testing with simulated pick runs and real data.

The result

With the systems connected, Hegas can meet Adlibris' requirements today and adapt to whatever comes next. Books are scanned, labelled and logged with full traceability before leaving Mellanrummet's warehouse. ASNs go out automatically. Orders land directly in Adlibris' systems without manual steps on either side.

For Mellanrummet, the architecture they've built with Hegas is already pointing toward the next opportunity. Ongoing WMS is a proper 3PL platform, built to serve multiple clients and the Adlibris integration is a reusable foundation. Other clients can be connected to the same infrastructure, turning what was built for one relationship into a scalable solution across their entire operation.

"What we've built here, we can now use for other clients too. The next step is looking at how we automate the flows for some of our other larger customers, using what we've already put in place," explains Magnus Lidström, Mellanrummet

Conclusion

Mellanrummet and Hegas didn't set out to solve a single problem, they set out to build something that could carry both businesses forward. With Business Central and Ongoing WMS working as a connected whole, they now have an integration architecture that reflects how their businesses actually work – together.
